A Beginner's Guide to Car Events

One of the best ways to get involved in car culture is to go to events. There are many different types of car events. Events can be anything from track days where people competitively race to casual meets where enthusiasts get together at talk about their cars. For beginners it can seem challenging at first to find car events. After all, many of the big-named car events such as the Detroit auto show or Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance can be a long haul for many car enthusiasts. That said, there are many more nearby and practical options when it comes to car events. Let’s go over a couple different events and how to find them.

Spontaneous meets
Wherever you live there is bound to be at least one small group of car enthusiasts that live nearby. Often times, people will hold spontaneous car meets just with their friends. All you really need for a car meet is cars and a space to park. So drive around and look for some like-minded individuals meeting up with their cool cars or talk to people you know and start a meet yourself. Facebook is a great place to get a meet started.

Local car shows
Shows like these are very similar to spontaneous meets. They differ by being slightly bigger and they are planned in advance. Many towns and cities have their own car shows that are often weekly or monthly. An example in my hometown of Topeka, Kansas is an event known as Cruise Night. This event is typically held every saturday night as long as the weather is nice. It is held in one of two locations. Topeka also has an annual car show in the summer in the downtown area. So ask around and see if your town or city has any events like this.

Traveling events
These events are bigger still than your average car show. They are typically sponsored events and tour around big cities. Some examples of these events are Stancewars and Gridlife Music and Motorsports Festival. These events have their own websites that will tell you all the information you need to know about when and where the next event will be. It may be a bit of a drive to one of these events but it is definitely worth it.

Hopefully this article will help you find some nearby car events to get you more involved in the car scene. I will leave you with a video of a local car show I went to that was held at my barber shop.

  1. Great post! As someone who knows nothing about cars, this is very helpful and interesting. I would recommend reading your writing out loud just to check for a few places that are a little rough, but other than that it looks really good! Your post length is great for a blog, good job! :)

  2. They tend to have some pretty nice car shows outside and inside back home in Kansas City. I have actually been to one and it was a interesting experience to see the different styles of cars from low-rider to luxury.
