Motorcycles: Are They a Good Option for Beginners?

To many the word motorcycle is synonymous with danger. However, motorcycles provide one of the most thrilling motoring experiences to riders. With the right safety precautions, motorcycles can make great vehicles for beginner enthusiasts.

Let’s start with the safety precautions. Before purchasing a motorcycle, it is important to know  that when you are riding a motorcycle you are more exposed than when you are driving a car. This means you can get seriously hurt if you are not careful. I suggest taking a rider’s safety course and getting the right gear before hopping on the saddle. There are rider’s safety courses nationwide and they take a weekend to complete. These courses provide you with the right skills and mindset to ride safely. They will also lower your insurance rates which is a plus. In terms of gear, I suggest a full-face helmet and a padded riding suit. This will protect you as well as possible in the event of a fall or crash.

Now let’s talk about motorcycles themselves. Motorcycles are very nimble and quick machines which makes them perfect for enthusiasts. Most motorcycles even today are manual so they are great at providing a sporty feel. There is also a motorcycle to fit any style. There are bigger more comfortable cruisers all the way down to low-sitting one seater sports bikes. If you are looking for a project to build and customize yourself, I would suggest an older bike from the 70’s. These bikes typically have exposed mechanical parts which makes them easy to work on. They are also very customizable with a huge aftermarket for parts. Motorcycle parts are also very cheap compared to cars so they are perfect for a budget build. I myself am building a custom 1971 Suzuki TS-250. I will leave a video of my strip down of the bike below.

You can expect some more posts regarding this bike later on. Hopefully this opened your eyes to the possibilities for enthusiasts outside of cars.

~Enjoy the Road~
