Electric Revolution: The Growing Electric Car Market

With emissions regulations getting evermore strict, we have seen a steadily rising hybrid/electric car market. At first with the introduction of the Toyota Prius and other cars like it, it seemed as though automobiles were losing their souls. These cars had great fuel economy but styling was bland and performance was nonexistent. The future looked like it was going to be the host o cookie-cutter car designs that were strictly for the purpose of getting from A to B without upsetting the environment.

Recently however, this perception of electric and hybrid cars has started changing. The culprit behind this changing perception is a little company by the name of Tesla. Tesla's "Model S" and "Model X" cars have proven to be successful in the car world with their high tech luxury interiors, interesting features such as the gullwing rear doors of the "Model X", and even certain autopilot driving features. But the main reason for their role in changing the perception of hybrids as a whole is that they are fast. Tesla cars feature an electric engine design that is built for speed. As opposed to a standard internal combustion engine like what is inside most of today's cars, electric motors like the ones inside Tesla cars have all of their torque available the second you hit the accelerator. This means that they are just as much fun on the dragstrip as they are on a long commute. Tesla's have recently been seen beating some big named performance cars off the block. This is starting to attract enthusiasts and will likely grow the electric car market into a whole new category of enthusiast car. Hopefully this can keep the souls of cars intact.
